Entanglement of Helicities in Tree-level QED Processes (Fall 2023)


In my fourth year (Fall semester), I worked under the mentorship of Prof. Arun Thalapillil on a project that involves studying the entanglement of helicity degrees of freedom of fermions, and how they evolve when they undergo standard QED processes like Møller scattering, Bhabha scattering, etc. (calculated for tree-level Feynman diagrams).

I did a brief review of the various entanglement measures for two qubit systems (which have a direct parallel with the polarization/spin states of electrons and photons). Along with this, I studied the spinor-helicity formalism for calculating scattering amplitudes with which, I was able to reproduce the main results of a paper by Fedida et. al. Next, we tried to extend the idea to three outgoing states as opposed to two, for which I had to review the literature for good three qubit entanglement measures.
