Introduction to General Relativity and Black Holes (Spring 2023)

In my third year (Spring semester), I worked under the mentorship of Prof. Arijit Bhattacharyay on a project that involved learning the basics of Einstein's Theory of General Relativity. The main aim of this project was to get acquainted with the essential ideas of how our current, and best framework of gravity relies on understanding spacetime in a geometric way.

The primary textbook I used was "Introduction to General Relativity" by John Dirk Walecka, but I also referred to books by Carrol and Schutz (mentioned in my report as references). Since this was a reading project, the final report summarizes the basic ideas of general relativity, with emphasis given on describing the physics involved. That doesn't mean I have not included any equations; in fact, towards the later part, I have tried to condense the very long and non-trivial derivations of the Schwarzschild metric, interior and exterior solutions of stars (TOV equation included) by highlighting what I felt were the key steps I required while deriving the same.
